River valley conditions
The Blackstone River valley, with spots like the Blackstone Gorge, is a beautiful place to live, and a damp one. River-valley humidity, morning fog and shade from wooded hillsides give mildew and algae ideal growing conditions on siding, decks and fences. Concrete walks and steps can take more pressure. Wood decks fall in between and need a lighter touch to avoid raising the grain.
